Steeped in history and oozing character, Scotland's isolated distilleries carry a sense of place through their flavours. To transport drinkers to a place or memory is a special experience that cannot be emulated by any other liquid. Modern distillers are now finding that some of their local young people are choosing to stay in their small town or Island to begin careers in the whisky industry. Without these new groundings and employment opportunities some communities are at risk of depopulation and the loss of culture.
The Isle of Harris is one of these places where the local distillery has become a beacon of hope for upholding the culture of the island. Providing employment, tourism and a means of telling the story of Harris to the world.
In this whisky tasting we will try whiskies from across Scotland and reflect upon how the distillery can be a cultural hub and an ambassador for the regions past times and stories all over the world.
You will taste the following whiskies:
Isle of Harris, The Hearach
Glen Moray 10 year old by Hidden Spirits
Benrinnes 12 year old Set#2 Cask#2 by The Whisky Set
Edradour Caledonia 12 year old
Scotch Malt Whisky Society 42.78 'Hiking through the woods after dark' 15 year old
